African Face, Colonial Tongue
African Face, Colonial Tongue is a visual interpretation of an essay by the same name, a short film poetically depicting Serati’s inner conflict between the dual linguistic and cultural identities that live within her. It is a search for self somewhere within the richness of her ethnic cultural heritage, and a global culture which increasingly defines the way we identify.

SERATI MASEKO x TedxPretoria
In her 2022 TedxPretoria talk, Serati uses an eco-feminist lens to interrogate the dual oppressions of human beings and nature, and the effects of nature deprivation in urban areas. Utilising music and storytelling, she takes us on a journey of her own discovery and invites us to reimagine the ways that we interact with the non-human natural world.
Hosting a live event? Serati and her band are available for show and performance bookings globally.
