Dear friend,

Finally ready to put the proverbial pen to paper, I write this note to welcome you to this new place that I have curated specially for you to view my work.

This website is the culmination of a lot of deep thought and reflection about where I choose to go in my career moving forward and how I want to present myself. I wanted to create a place where, first and foremost, I can publish my writing. Anyone who has followed me over the years knows that back in my modelling days I used to run a popular blog called Afro Hair in Fashion. The blog was all about the lack of representation of afro textured hair in the fashion industry; and then it became about so much more. Researching and writing about black hair exposed me to issues and ideas around feminism, womanism, intersectionality, eco-feminism, and all things related to the politics around black bodies. I authored that blog for 5+ years, where I nurtured my love for writing, until, I felt I had nothing more to say. In truth, I knew I had more to say, I just didn’t feel like that platform was the right place to say it.

Meanwhile, my interest in, and curiosity about, the human condition and social issues grew and deepened, and my desire to use my voice and my pen to highlight the things that matter to me, led me to write an article on my experience of nature deprivation. This was my first article published in a major publication, and it was an affirmation that what I have to say has value.

This website is a space for all those who are interested in what I have to say to come and spend some time. I value my work, I value my words, and I think they deserve their own space. Topics covered will be everything from my personal insights to social issues. I value your presence, and I hope this will be the beginning of a long term relationship between you and me.

Love x

Afro Hair in Fashion

For about 5 years, I amassed a 8000+ following on my blog “Afro Hair in Fashion.” The blog started out as a space to talk about the challenges of being a model with natural Afro-textured hair.
