For Palestine

10 000 deaths in 40 days

Witness the scale

Of destruction

Without even the space

To mourn

Names of your departed

Tucked within cold palms

Bodies wrapped in white cloth

Clasped in anguished arms

Families searching through

The wreckage

For the bodies

Of their loved ones

And when found,

Lay down and weep

And for a moment sleep

With the dead.

But, take heart

And remember that

Every body slain

Is the body of Palestine

And when it is laid

It will fertilise the soil

And the rain will

Transform your tears

Into clear water

And nourish the ground

From which a new nation

Will blossom.

Not a single ounce

Of blood was shed in vain.

Palestine,

Know that you do not fight alone

Your screams are heard

And echoed

Around the globe

By us, your allies

And the oppressed

We ascend the streets

Heavy with our pounding feet

Marching for a common creed

A thirst for liberty,

Hunger for land to raise our families,

A desire for self determination,

A craving for the recognition

Of our humanity.

These are the ‘’inalienable rights’’

proselytised by the guilty.

But they will not win

Our efforts will reach you

Carried by the wind,

Your children will laugh again

Jovial in their nescience

And the babies,

Sweet and supple,

Will wake from gentle dreams

And suckle once more

From your breast.

We will not rest

Until Palestine is free
